This Session: DRUMMING in HARMONY

Learn and practice the TECHNIQUE of the West African djembe and dun-un drums; Learn how to LISTEN while playing, and how to use rhythm logic to develop good TIMING; Learn how to IMPROVISE and find your own voice while staying part of the whole in a drum or music circle.
Learn SOLOING techniques and PATTERNS to fall back on.
Get ready to be a master at DRUMMING IN HARMONY.

Classes take place at RODA STUDIO’s NEW LOCATION, 7014C Westmoreland Ave, Takoma Park, MD.

Classes go from 5-6:30pm. Fee for all 6 classes is $135. Drop-ins are $25.
Registration and/or attendance at all 6 sessions is encouraged.

Class dates are May 5, 12, 19, 26; June 9 and 16.
Note: NO CLASS ON JUNE 2

Drums available for use, first come first served.
ALL LEVELS OF DRUMMERS ARE WELCOME.

If you have never had a djembe class before, please plan to arrive at the first class at 4:40 p.m. We will do an overview of the djembe in order to join our more advanced students at 5p.m.

Not only is she a real master at this stuff, but she also has fantastic energy. She holds every class with the help of several highly talented musicians on other types of African drums and instruments, making everyclass extra fun and inspiring. She is patient when newbies struggle and sends podcasts of ourlessons afterward so you can practice on your own. You’re not just learning the voices of the drum, you’ll learn traditional beats and their meaning. Thanks to her assistants, this all takes place accompanied by a delightful foundation of various drums that make her circles come alive.
